One Day in Todos Santos: A Practical Day-Trip Itinerary

Table of Contents

For one day in Todos Santos, build the visit around the town, a meal and one optional outing. Galleries, the central streets and a Pacific-coast landscape can fill the day without adding a mountain hike, surf lesson and turtle program to the same schedule.

Getting there from Los Cabos

Todos Santos is on the Pacific side of Baja California Sur, north of El Pescadero. Check the route from your accommodation and allow for traffic, stops and the return. Around an hour from Cabo San Lucas is a rough orientation, rather than a guaranteed door-to-door travel time.

If arranging a tour or driver, agree on the pickup, time in town and return before booking. With a rental car, plan where you will park and avoid leaving the return drive until you are tired after a crowded day.

Morning: enjoy the town on foot

Start around the central square, then explore a manageable group of galleries, artisan shops and historic streets. Todos Santos’s creative life is part of its appeal. Opening times differ, so check any particular gallery, museum or cultural center that is essential to your visit.

The Hotel California guide explains a well-known central landmark. Enjoy the local stories as stories rather than treating the hotel’s name as evidence of a connection to the Eagles song. A meal or visit has its own current arrangements.

Lunch: leave time to stop

Choose somewhere that suits your appetite, budget and the part of town you are exploring. Fish tacos, seafood and other regional dishes can be part of the visit, but the day does not depend on a famous restaurant. Check reservations and opening times if you have a particular place in mind.

A leisurely meal is a sensible midpoint. Reassess the afternoon based on the time, heat and everyone’s energy rather than trying to complete every suggestion in an itinerary.

Afternoon: stay in town or choose one coastal stop

Stay for more galleries and shops, or make one planned trip beyond the center. Punta Lobos, Cerritos and other coastal places are separate destinations with different access and conditions. They are not all short walks from the square.

Do not assume Pacific beaches are suitable for a relaxed swim. If surfing interests you, arrange appropriate instruction and choose conditions that fit your ability. A beach photograph or a nearby surf school is not an assurance of safe swimming.

El Pescadero and a coffee stop

The El Pescadero guide explains the neighboring area south of Todos Santos. Baja Beans is in that area, rather than an hour north of Todos Santos. Add a stop only if it fits the route and the business is open for your visit.

Evening and the return

Choose between dinner in town and an earlier journey back. Do not tack a Sierra de la Laguna hike onto the end of the day as a sunset diversion. A mountain outing requires its own access, route, equipment and time planning.

If staying overnight, compare the actual address: a hotel by Punta Lobos or on an outlying beach is not necessarily in the town center. Confirm the route and dining arrangements rather than relying on “Todos Santos” as a precise location.

An authorized turtle-observation program is a separate date- and conservation-dependent activity. Do not approach nests or hatchlings independently to complete an itinerary. A good one-day visit can remain simple: enjoy the town, eat well and leave enough time for the journey home.

At Los Cabos

I used to live in Los Cabos for some time and worked here as a boat captain in one of Cabo San Lucas' leading tour companies. Back then, I came for 6 months but stayed for 18. I've done a bunch of things, and visited multiple hemispheres. I traveled and lived in other countries. And now I'm back here, At Los Cabos.
