A Pelican Rock snorkeling tour should include an actual stop in the water, suitable equipment and clear supervision arrangements. Some Cabo boat trips only pass the rock for sightseeing, while others snorkel at a different bay. Check the itinerary before booking if Pelican Rock is your priority.
For the setting and marine life, see our Pelican Rock guide. This page focuses on choosing a snorkeling excursion and understanding what is included.
What a Pelican Rock snorkeling visit looks like
The video below shows one way to visit the site and the underwater views you might experience. It is an example of a trip, rather than a promise that every operator follows the same itinerary or supplies the same equipment.

A typical guided visit combines a boat journey with a briefing, equipment fitting and time in the water. Ask how much of the advertised duration is actual snorkeling time. A longer cruise can be enjoyable, but more time on board does not necessarily mean more time exploring the rock.
Choosing between shared, private and paddling trips
Shared snorkeling excursions
A shared trip follows a set departure and group itinerary. Compare group size, guide supervision and time in the water. Check the intended snorkeling site: a tour that includes views of Pelican Rock and the Arch may continue elsewhere for its swim stop.
Private boats and sailing yachts
A private trip offers more scope to discuss timing and your group’s preferences. Confirm snorkeling equipment, in-water guidance, refreshments and any transport separately. “Private” or “luxury” does not by itself mean everything is included, and the captain still needs to adapt to conditions.
Kayak and stand-up paddleboard excursions
A guided paddling trip can combine the journey with a snorkeling stop. Ask about paddling distance, launch point, required experience, equipment handling and the return route. This is a more active outing than riding to the site in a boat.
Compare Pelican Rock snorkeling trips
Compare a glass-bottom boat excursion, an Arch kayak combination and a private-guided kayak option. Check equipment, supervision and the actual snorkeling stop.

What to check before paying
- Snorkeling location: is Pelican Rock a planned stop, and what alternative is used if conditions change?
- Equipment: are mask, snorkel, fins and suitable flotation included, with sizes for everyone in your group?
- Support: will a guide enter the water, how many guests do they supervise, and how do you reboard?
- Total cost: check currency, dock charges, transfers, equipment extras and any food or drinks.
- Terms: read the cancellation deadline, refund conditions and policy for weather or itinerary changes. Free cancellation is not universal.
On the tour described here, the guides were CPR-certified. Ask your chosen operator about current guide qualifications and emergency arrangements rather than assuming that every provider uses the same standards.
Beginners and children
Tell the operator your swimming ability and previous snorkeling experience before booking. Ask about minimum ages, child-sized equipment, supervision and how to remain on board if someone decides not to swim. A calm-looking bay does not make the activity suitable for every participant.
If you are new to snorkeling, choose a trip with instruction and support suited to you. Do not rely on a flotation aid to replace the ability or assistance required by the operator.
When to go and what wildlife to expect
Pelican Rock is visited throughout the year, but visibility, temperature, swell and current vary. There is no fixed March-to-June or May-to-November window that guarantees the clearest water. Ask about recent conditions and whether thermal protection would improve your comfort.
Expect to look for fish around the rocky habitat. Turtles, rays and sea lions may be seen, but a tour cannot guarantee a particular animal. Keep your distance, avoid touching or feeding wildlife and take care not to contact the habitat with fins or a camera.
Departure and packing
Confirm your exact meeting point and boarding time using our guide to reaching Pelican Rock. Hotel transfers are not automatically included, and beach boarding may differ from boarding at a dock.
Bring a swimsuit, towel, sun protection, drinking water and any personal gear you want to use. Ask what the boat supplies and whether there is dry storage. If your excursion continues to Santa Maria or another bay, check the full duration and allow enough time for your return plans.
