Choose one or two activities for your Balandra visit rather than trying to tour every cove. Time ashore depends on admission arrangements, conditions and your return journey. The Balandra Beach guide gives the overall setting; this page helps you decide how to spend the visit.
Start with a simple beach plan
Settle in an appropriate place, find the toilets and establish when you need to leave. Bring drinking water, food and shade suitable for your group. A relaxed beach visit can consist of looking at the bay, taking photographs and enjoying a picnic without booking another activity.
For families, agree a meeting point and supervise children closely around the water. Shallow sections can still have changes in depth, wind and footing. Choose whether to enter based on current guidance and ability, not the bay’s reputation.
Photograph El Hongo without climbing it
The mushroom-shaped rock is a memorable subject from a permitted viewpoint. Leave it undisturbed and follow the approved route. Wait your turn if others are taking photographs, and avoid climbing dunes or walking through vegetation to find a different angle.
Choose an optional water activity
Kayaking or paddleboarding can offer another view when conditions and access permit. Ask where you may go, what instruction and equipment are provided, how to return and when the equipment must be back. A rental does not create permission to explore every part of the protected area.
For a shorter underwater activity, read the Balandra snorkeling guide. Decide whether the conditions actually suit the group. Have a shore-based alternative so the visit does not depend on entering the water.
Walk only where access is allowed
A short authorized walk can reveal the contrast between desert terrain, mangroves and the bay. Wear suitable footwear, carry water and allow time to return within your session. Do not cross a closure or attempt to link beaches across an unfamiliar headland.
Watch birds quietly from an appropriate distance. A close photograph is not worth disturbing resting or nesting wildlife. Binoculars can help you enjoy the view while remaining on the permitted route.
Build the return into the plan
The Balandra entry and session guide helps you match activities to the permitted visit. Include packing up, walking back and finding your transport. A sunset outing advertised elsewhere around La Paz does not establish after-hours access to Balandra’s public beach.
If you add a meal or another stop near La Paz, treat it as a separate part of the day. Avoid combining the beach with a full offshore excursion and a long Los Cabos return unless the actual schedule comfortably allows it.
