La Ventana and El Sargento are neighbouring coastal communities on the Sea of Cortez in La Paz municipality, Baja California Sur. Plan a visit around wind sports, time beside the bay or an arranged outdoor experience in the surrounding hills. From Los Cabos, they suit a longer excursion or a short stay.

Where are La Ventana and El Sargento?
The communities sit southeast of La Paz, facing the Gulf of California and Isla Cerralvo. They share a coastal destination area, but your accommodation, school or activity meeting point may be in either community. Save the exact address before travelling.
For a journey from the Cabo resort towns, calculate the route from your accommodation and confirm the final approach with your host. This is beyond Los Cabos municipality. An early lesson or ranch check-in may be easier to manage with a nearby overnight stay.
Kitesurfing and the winter wind season
Wind sports are a major reason to visit. La Paz tourism highlights roughly November through April for kitesurfing, while some destination material emphasises November through March. Treat those months as a seasonal guide rather than a promise of wind on your dates.
If you are learning, book a school and explain your previous experience. Ask how instruction progresses, what equipment is supplied and how the school handles unsuitable conditions. The best launch area and session time depend on the conditions and your ability.
Watching from shore can be enjoyable too. Stay clear of launching and landing areas, give equipment plenty of room and follow instructions from schools or beach staff. A busy kite beach needs more awareness than a quiet stretch of sand.
Beach time, paddling and the bay
A beach walk and a meal overlooking the bay make a worthwhile day without a lesson. Choose your shore stop for the conditions you find, and confirm access and facilities at that particular location. Shade, toilets and parking are not uniform along the coast.
Kayaking and paddleboarding need their own weather decision. A day that works well for a wind sport may be unsuitable for a casual paddle. Arrange with a local provider who can recommend the right location, time and equipment for your group.
For a boat or marine-life outing, confirm the departure point, duration, group size and what happens if conditions change. Wildlife sightings vary. Leave time for the briefing and return rather than fitting the trip tightly between distant stops.
Mountain biking and a ranch day
The desert landscape offers another reason to spend longer in the area. If you want a guided outing with an organised meeting point, compare the walking, biking and ranch options in our Rancho Cacachilas guide. Advance booking and activity selection matter.
A mountain-bike ride is a separate commitment from a village beach visit. Describe your trail experience honestly and ask about terrain, distance, equipment and the guide’s plan for the group. Build the day around one substantial activity.
A day trip or an overnight stay?
Choose a day trip for one confirmed activity or an unhurried coastal visit with a meal. Leave a comfortable margin for the return drive. Stay overnight if you want early starts, several lessons or time to adapt your plans to changing wind.
Pick accommodation by the part of the day that matters most: proximity to your school, a quieter coastal setting or easy access to your meeting point. Ask about equipment storage and transport if you are bringing sports gear.
An easy first-visit plan
Start with coffee or breakfast near your chosen activity, then spend the main part of the day on that experience. Follow with a relaxed meal and time beside the bay. If you are taking a lesson, let the school’s confirmed schedule shape the day.
For a different coastal outing within Los Cabos municipality, compare La Ribera. For museums and mining heritage, choose El Triunfo. These destinations offer different reasons to travel, so start with the experience you want.
